Modelling transmission and control of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis within Irish dairy herds with compact spring calving

چکیده
Paratuberculosis is a chronic bacterial infection of the intestine in cattle caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (Map). To better understand Map transmission Irish dairy herds, we adapted French stochastic individual-based epidemiological simulation model to account for seasonal herd demographics. We investigated probability persistence over time, within-herd prevalence and relative importance pathways, assessed effectiveness test-and-cull control strategies. impact on outputs calf separation from cows (calves grazed pasture adjacent vs. were completely separated cows) test-and-cull. Test-and-cull scenarios consisted highly test-positive culled within 13 or 4 weeks after detection, born kept vs removed. simulated typical with average 82 lactating cows, 112 animals total. Each scenario was iterated 1000 times adjust variation stochasticity. introduced fully naive through purchase moderately infectious primiparous cow. Infection considered persist when at least one infected animal remained present environment. The 15 years introduction ranged between 32.2–42.7 % calves had contact pasture, 18.9–29.4 pasture. most effective strategy cull four detection (absolute 10 lower compared without control). Removing offspring dams did not affect either Map. Mean highest (63.5 %) decrease) high result, 28 weeks. Around calving, rate high, being utero via general indoor environment (most important routes). For remainder year, incidence relatively low cows. Testing culling an it used prior calving period minimize number born.

Prevalence of Michigan dairy herds infected with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis as determined by environmental sampling.
A cross-sectional, stratified random survey of Michigan dairy herds was conducted to estimate the prevalence of herds infected with Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (MAP), the causative agent of Johne's disease, in Michigan using targeted environmental sampling. One pooled sample each from the primary manure storage area and a high-traffic common cow area from each herd was collected and cu...
متن کاملRisk factors for the introduction and within-herd transmission of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) infection on 59 Irish dairy herds
Since 1994, Irish cattle have been exposed to greater risks of acquiring Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) infection as a consequence of the importation of over 70,000 animals from continental Europe. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of reported clinical cases of paratuberculosis in Ireland. This study examines the prevalence of factors that promote ...
متن کاملStrain diversity within Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis--a review.
Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP), is the etiological agent of Johne's disease (or paratuberculosis) in animals and has also been linked with Crohn's disease of human beings. Extreme fastidious nature of the organism (MAP) has hampered studies on diversity within the organism. Studies based on phenotypic properties like growth rate, pigmentation, lipid profile etc., are unab...
متن کاملParatuberculosis sero-status and milk production, SCC and calving interval in Irish dairy herds
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of paratuberculosis sero-status on milk yield, fat, protein, somatic cell count and calving interval in Irish dairy herds. Serum from all animals over 12 months of age (n = 2,602) in 34 dairy herds was tested for antibodies to Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis using an ELISA. Herds were categorised by sero-status into positive,...
متن کاملThe Mycobacterium avium Subspecies Paratuberculosis Dilemma
The purpose of this paper is to present and update the longitudinal perspective of the Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis dilemma as initially stated in Infectious Diseases Incorporated’s 2012 White Paper. In both wild and domestic herbivores, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) produces chronic granulomatous enteritis (Johne’s disease) that, if unchecked, is usua...
